Mississauga Backyard Micro Wedding

Planning a small wedding doesn’t mean you need a traditional wedding venue or a full-day photography timeline. Anna and Duncan’s summer micro wedding in Mississauga is a great example of how a backyard wedding can be relaxed, personal, and still include all the important parts of a wedding day. With only 45 guests, their celebration took place entirely at Anna’s aunt’s home. The front yard was used for the ceremony, while the backyard became the reception space, complete with a tent, catered food, and yard games. Keeping everything at one location made it possible to spend more time celebrating with family and friends and less time moving between venues.

Much of the decor was DIY, with Anna sourcing and creating many of the details herself. Personal, handmade details like these can be especially well suited to a backyard wedding, where the goal isn’t necessarily to recreate a traditional wedding venue but to make a familiar space feel like your own for the celebration.

The ceremony took place in the front yard, with family and friends gathered around them. Since most of the guests were family and relatives, the ceremony had a particularly intimate feel. At the end, Anna and Duncan had a bubble recessional, with their guests joining in as they walked back down the aisle. It was a simple detail, but it gave everyone a chance to participate and made for some fun, candid photos.

After the ceremony, everyone moved around to the backyard for the reception. A tent provided space for the catered meal, while the rest of the yard was used for mingling and games.
